Why Reston works for a corporate event

How it works with us here

Reston is the office heart of the Dulles corridor: software companies, government contractors and defense firms fill the towers along the toll road, and much of their team building happens a short walk from the desk. We run programs in their auditoriums and training rooms, in the ballrooms at Reston Town Center, and outdoors at Lake Fairfax Park. Everything arrives with our facilitators, and the Silver Line brings colleagues in from the District and Tysons.

More about corporate events in Reston, VA

Game shows at Reston Town Center

A Minute 2 Win It! leads the Reston bookings, and the Hyatt Regency Reston is its usual home: a food and beverage company opened a two-day meeting with it, and a government group filled the ballroom with it one September. Small teams of six to eight take on sixty-second stunts at their tables, and afterward dinner is a short walk across the town center.

Programs with a patriotic purpose

With so many defense and contracting teams here, programs that serve the military come up often. A technology company built Operation Military Care packages for people in uniform at the Sheraton Reston, and a manufacturer ran Minute 2 Win It! for Charity at the Hyatt Regency, earning the items for care packages that went to Loudoun County VFW Post 1177.

SmartHunts around the town center

Reston Town Center's plaza, fountain and pavilion make a compact course for a SmartHunt. Aerospace and software teams have run an Amazing Chase SmartHunt® and a City SmartHunt® from their offices and from the Hyatt Regency, and the teams, eight to ten people each, carry our iPads from the fountain to the pavilion and back.

Outdoors at Lake Fairfax

Lake Fairfax Park covers 476 acres on the north side of Reston, with a lake, fields and picnic shelters. A real estate company held Team Olympics there in May: teams of twelve to fifteen move between athletic-style challenges on the grass for 1.5 to 2 hours.

In your own building

Many Reston events never leave the office campus. Software companies have run Bike Build Donation® and game shows in their own space, and a technology firm booked Earth Wind and Solar for its office, where teams earn parts through trivia and race the rovers they build. A cleared training room at about 25 square feet a person is enough.

One Silver Line, one team

The Silver Line ties Reston to the rest of our Washington work: the District is at one end and Arlington in between. A contractor with staff at a Reston campus and a downtown office can run the same program at both.

Planning guide

Reston weather through the year

Out near Dulles, nights run cooler than in the city, and a January morning can be well below freezing.

  • Outdoors

    April and May

    • Fields at Lake Fairfax dry out and green up: the first good stretch for Team Olympics.

  • Either way

    June to August

    • Muggy afternoons. Book Lake Fairfax for a morning start, or stay in the air conditioning.

  • Outdoors

    September and October

    • Comfortable again after Labor Day, when the Water Mine closes and the park quiets down.

  • Indoors

    November to March

Dates to plan around

Tephra ICA Arts Festival
Mid-May (May 16 and 17 in 2026). The arts festival fills Reston Town Center's streets for a weekend.
Water Mine season
Memorial Day to Labor Day. Lake Fairfax's water park draws families, so weekday dates are quieter.
Ice skating at Reston Town Center
From November into early March. The pavilion becomes a rink, a good finish after a winter game show.

For a SmartHunt at Reston Town Center, avoid the arts festival weekend or tell us early and we will plan around it.

Corporate events and team building in Reston, VA: questions we get

Will you run it inside our building near the toll road?

Yes. Plenty of Reston programs happen in a company auditorium or training room. A game show or build wants roughly 25 square feet per person plus tables, and we follow your badge and escort rules for visitors.

Which Reston venues have you used?

The Hyatt Regency Reston at Reston Town Center, the Sheraton Reston on Sunrise Valley Drive, and Lake Fairfax Park for outdoor programs. We have also run programs in office buildings along the Dulles Toll Road.

What is popular with Reston teams?

The first pick is A Minute 2 Win It!, then SmartHunts, Operation Military Care, Minute 2 Win It! for Charity, Team Olympics, Bike Build Donation® and Earth Wind and Solar. Most run 1.5 to 2 hours, and the SmartHunts 2 to 2.5 hours.

Do you have programs that support veterans or the military?

Yes. Operation Military Care assembles care packages for people serving in the military, and Minute 2 Win It! for Charity has sent its care packages to Loudoun County VFW Post 1177. Both suit defense and contracting teams, and we can direct the donation to a group your company supports.

Can we hold an event outdoors in Reston?

Yes. Team Olympics has run at Lake Fairfax Park, whose picnic shelters are reserved through the Fairfax County Park Authority, and a SmartHunt can use Reston Town Center. April, May, September and October are the most comfortable months.

Is Reston handled by a separate team from Washington?

No, one Northern Virginia and District team plans both. This page is about the Dulles corridor: Reston Town Center, the office parks and Lake Fairfax. Our Washington page covers events inside the city.

Can the program grow with our headcount?

It can. We have worked with a single software squad and with a meeting that took the Hyatt Regency's whole ballroom. Listed ranges run 30 to 1,000+, and each extra block of teams gets its own facilitator.

When should we reserve a Reston date?

Give a town center ballroom or a spring or fall date at Lake Fairfax two months. December goes fast. An in-office program can be set in a month, but cleared facilities may want our crew's names sooner.
