What is leadership team building?
Leadership team building is a facilitated program whose purpose is to change how a group of managers or executives leads, not just to entertain them. At BEST it takes two forms: assessment-based workshops (DiSC, Myers-Briggs, Belbin, Colors) that give each leader a shared vocabulary for their own style and their team's, and applied programs (Igniting Team Performance, Competition to Collaboration, Manager's Guide to Business Coaching) where the group works through progressively harder challenges and debriefs what happened.
Every program is led by a professional facilitator, runs from two hours to a full day, and closes with a debrief on what the group will do differently. The tags on each program page under Goals & Outcomes show which programs are built for individual and team development and which for communication.

Three ways to build leaders in a room

Assess, then apply
DiSC, Myers-Briggs, Belbin and Colors workshops start with each leader's profile and spend the session on how the styles in the room work together.
Coach the coaches
Manager's Guide to Business Coaching and Delegation Styles are one-day and half-day workshops on the two skills managers are promoted without.
Lead under pressure
Igniting Team Performance and Competition to Collaboration put the team through timed challenges and a structured debrief after each round, so leadership habits show up in the open.
When leadership teams book these
Executive retreats and offsites, new-manager cohorts, post-merger leadership teams learning to work together, and annual leadership meetings that want a working session rather than another deck.
What a leadership program day looks like
- Step 1:
A facilitator meets the sponsor in advance to set the outcomes the group needs.
- Step 2:
Assessments are completed online before the day and debriefed in the room.
- Step 3:
Challenges run in rounds of activity, discussion and application to the team's real work.
- Step 4:
The session closes with a debrief on what the group will take back to its work.

What clients say
The opportunity for the teams to de-brief, sharing with each other what they did in their circles and preparing them for success when they would have the opportunity to complete the task was a great team builder. The communication aspects the program were fun, as was putting together the puzzle pieces which allowed for communication with employees they do not typically interact with. The feedback received was very positive. Great facilitators!

Your DiSC Profile Workshop was engaging and insightful for our staff. We learned a lot about our colleagues and ourselves. This will help us as we continue to strengthen our culture and climate.

I do not pass out flattery easily, but you were great! What a pleasure to have you facilitate our session. You are the Arnold Palmer of leadership development. Your unique ability to connect with us and make us feel like you were only talking to me was uncanny. You have perfected the art of this connection. Thank you so much for the energy, your sincerity, and the kindness to assist us in the pursuit of getting better.

Frequently asked questions
How long is a leadership team building program?
Assessment workshops (DiSC, Myers-Briggs, Belbin, Colors, Delegation Styles) run 3 to 4 hours. Igniting Team Performance runs 2 to 3 hours. Manager's Guide to Business Coaching and Conflict Resolution Training are one-day programs.
How many leaders can take part?
The assessment and coaching workshops accept any group size and are usually run for a leadership team or manager cohort. Competition to Collaboration scales up to 1,000+ for large leadership meetings.
Can we run leadership team building virtually?
Yes. Virtual DiSC, Virtual Coaching and Feedback, Leading Virtual Teams and Building Your Hybrid Team are built for distributed leadership teams of up to 20 or 25, depending on the program.
Is this training or team building?
Both, deliberately. The workshops are professional development with a facilitator and an assessment behind them; the applied programs are team building whose debriefs are about leadership. Most leadership teams pair one of each across a retreat.
Do participants take an assessment before the session?
Yes, for DiSC, Myers-Briggs, Belbin and Colors. Participants complete the assessment online before the day and the trainer debriefs the results in the room. The assessment and profile materials are an additional cost; the workshop design and a certified trainer are included.
Who leads a leadership program?
A certified trainer for the assessment workshops, DiSC-certified and MBTI-certified for those two, and a professional facilitator for the applied programs and the coaching and delegation workshops.
Where can a leadership session run?
At your office, an offsite venue or a conference hotel, in a room set classroom style or with round tables sized to the group. Delivered nationwide with no added travel costs in the continental U.S., or live over video conferencing for a distributed team.
