How can a team building event support veterans?
In a veterans program your team competes in short challenges to earn the materials for a donation, then builds or packs it together. Groups assemble rollators with brakes, padded seats and a bag of care items for veterans with mobility challenges, or pack care packages and write letters for men and women serving overseas.
We work with established veteran support organizations so the donations reach people who need them. A professional facilitator runs the whole program and brings every material, and when a nonprofit representative can join, they share where your donation is going.

Why we moved from wheelchairs to rollators and care packs
For years, teams that wanted to serve veteran communities chose Build-a-Wheelchair®, and many of those wheelchairs went to organizations serving veterans.
We stay close to our charitable partners so our programs follow what their communities need. They told us good news: wheelchairs are now provided to any veteran who needs one. So we asked what veterans' charities need today, and built our veterans programs around those items.
How a veterans program runs
- Step 1:
Kick-off
A professional facilitator welcomes the group, splits it into teams of about 10 and explains the cause behind the donation.
- Step 2:
Earn the donation
Teams play Brainstorm, a browser game of trivia, puzzles and photo and video challenges on their own phones with nothing to download, or Minute 2 Win It style games, and spend their points on donation items.
- Step 3:
Build or pack it
Teams assemble rollators or fill care packages, adding personal notes and letters so every donation carries a message from your group.
- Step 4:
Hand it over
The group gathers for a photo with the finished donations, and the facilitator coordinates delivery with the receiving organization.

Where do the donations go?
To nonprofit partners that serve the people each program is built for. For veterans programs we work with established veteran support organizations. Operation Military Care packages ship to service members overseas through our military coordination and shipping service.
Can our team write messages to the troops?
Yes. Operation Military Care includes letters and writing materials, so every package goes out with personal notes from your group.
How long does a veterans program take, and how many people can join?
About 1.5 to 2 hours, for 30 to 1,000+ people working in teams of 10.
What space do we need?
About 25 square feet per person, indoors or outdoors. The facilitator brings the materials and sets up the room.
Do you still offer Build-a-Wheelchair® for veterans?
Our partners told us wheelchairs are now provided to any veteran who needs one, so for veteran-focused events we recommend Build-A-Rollator or a care pack program instead.
