Why St. Petersburg works for a corporate event

Planned by a Tampa Bay team

St. Petersburg is close to home for us. Best Corporate Events is based up the road in Palm Harbor, in north Pinellas County, so we know the drive over the Howard Frankland Bridge, the waterfront parks and the hotels downtown and on the beach.

More about corporate events in St. Petersburg, FL

A lot in a small area

Downtown runs along the bay from the Vinoy to the St. Pete Pier and the Dalí Museum, with the waterfront parks in between. Central Avenue carries the restaurants and shops west toward the Grand Central District and the Warehouse Arts District, both known for their murals, and St. Pete Beach sits on the Gulf about half an hour to the southwest.

Seeing the city

City SmartHunt® sends teams of eight to ten through photo and video challenges on iPads we provide, along Beach Drive, the Pier and the waterfront parks, or through the mural districts. It runs 2 to 2.5 hours from a starting point such as a hotel lobby. Amazing Chase SmartHunt® is the faster, race-style version.

Giving back

In Bike Build Donation®, one of our charitable team building programs, teams of ten earn bike parts, assemble and safety-check the bikes, and the bikes go to children served by a local organization. It runs 1.5 to 2 hours, indoors or out, so it works in a ballroom in August or on a lawn in March.

One room, or the beach

A Minute 2 Win It! puts teams of six to eight through one-minute tabletop games, and Best Corporate Feud turns a ballroom into a game show. Team Olympics takes the competition outside to a lawn or a stretch of beach when the weather allows.

Where events happen

Groups have gathered at The Vinoy® Renaissance St. Petersburg Resort & Golf Club on the north end of downtown, and at the Marriott St. Petersburg/Clearwater in the Gateway area near Carillon. Many local companies host the program in their own space, and the beach hotels on the Gulf take groups who have come in for a conference.

Across Tampa Bay

Tampa is across the bay, Clearwater is to the north, and Sarasota is an hour south. The same facilitators work all of them.

Planning guide

Matching a program to your St. Petersburg space

A St. Pete event usually runs in a hotel ballroom downtown or on the beach, in a company’s own training room, or outdoors in a park or on the sand. The floor area settles the choice faster than the headcount does.

Floor area per person

Measured another way

City SmartHunt®
Only a meeting point: a hotel lobby, your reception area, or a spot near the Pier.

An outdoor program on a hotel’s own lawn or beach is arranged with the hotel. An event that takes over a city park or a public street may need a permit from the City of St. Petersburg, and we check that with you when you book.

A worked example

2,000 sq ft

80 people at 25 sq ft each

Each square is one person’s 25 sq ft.

Send the room’s dimensions or a floor plan with your headcount and we will tell you which programs fit.

Planning guide

Indoors or out: planning around the St. Pete weather

  • Outdoors

    November to April

    • Mild, dry days: the best time for a SmartHunt along the waterfront or Team Olympics on the beach.
    • Visitors from the north fill the hotels, so book early for February and March.
    • December holiday team building can still run outdoors here. Operation Toy Donation runs indoors in 1.5 to 2 hours.
  • Either way

    May to October

    • From June through September, afternoons are hot and humid and thunderstorms with lightning are common.
    • Plan outdoor programs for the morning, or move indoors: the charitable builds and the game shows run in any air-conditioned room.
    • See our summer team building ideas.

Dates to plan around

Ballrooms fill early
January through April. Seasonal visitors fill the ballrooms early.
Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg
Late February or early March (February 27 to March 1 in 2026). The race closes streets around the waterfront and fills downtown hotels.
Hurricane season
June 1 through November 30. For an outdoor date in late summer or early fall, hold an indoor room as a backup.
SHINE Mural Festival
November. New murals across the city, a good theme for a hunt through the arts districts.

If your event lands near the Grand Prix or the mural festival, tell us early and we will plan the room and the route around it.

Planning guide

Getting your group to St. Petersburg and around it

Two airports serve St. Pete, and downtown is compact enough to walk.

Airports

Tampa International
About 21 miles, roughly half an hour by car outside rush hour, across the Howard Frankland Bridge. Allow extra time for the bridges at peak hours.
St. Pete-Clearwater International
Closer, about nine miles north of downtown.

Transit

Downtown Looper
A trolley, free within downtown, that circles the waterfront with stops at the Pier, the Vinoy and the Dalí Museum.
SunRunner
Bus rapid transit from downtown along First Avenue North and South to St. Pete Beach in about 35 minutes, every 15 minutes through the day. It helps a group staying on the beach reach an event downtown.

Driving and parking

Garages and meters
City garages downtown and metered street spaces along the waterfront. Point drivers to the hotel garage or a public garage near your venue.
Event weekends
Parking tightens, so plan for it.

On foot

Starting near Beach Drive
A SmartHunt that starts here keeps the Pier, the parks and the museums within walking distance.

Planning guide

A planning timeline for a St. Petersburg event

  1. 8+ weeks out

Dates from January through April, Grand Prix weekend, groups over 100, and anything in a beachfront or downtown hotel ballroom. Seasonal visitors fill those rooms early.

  2. 4 to 6 weeks out

A group under 100 in your own office. A month is comfortable.

  3. 2 weeks out

Confirm the headcount, the room layout and your indoor backup for any outdoor program. If you booked a charitable build, choose the organization that receives the donation.

  4. Event day

Our facilitators arrive ahead of the start with the equipment and the awards, so your team walks into a room that is ready.

Shorter notice is sometimes possible, so call if your date is close. 800.849.8326

Corporate events and team building in St. Petersburg, FL: questions we get

Do you come to our office or hotel in St. Petersburg?

Yes. We bring the program, the facilitators and the equipment to your office, your hotel or your conference venue anywhere in St. Pete and on the beaches. If you still need a room, we can suggest one that fits your headcount and the program you have in mind.

Is Best Corporate Events local to St. Petersburg?

Yes. Best Corporate Events is based in Palm Harbor, in north Pinellas County, so St. Pete is part of our home region. We know the waterfront, the hotels and the traffic on the bridges, and we run events across Tampa, Clearwater and Sarasota as well.

What are the best team building activities in St. Petersburg?

City SmartHunt® is the pick for a group that wants to see the waterfront and the mural districts. Bike Build Donation® suits a group that wants to give back, and A Minute 2 Win It! and Best Corporate Feud fit a hotel ballroom. Team Olympics works on a lawn or the beach from November through April.

Can we run a scavenger hunt downtown or at the Pier?

Yes. In City SmartHunt®, teams of eight to ten move along Beach Drive, the Pier and the waterfront parks on iPads we provide, with photo and video challenges scored live. It runs 2 to 2.5 hours and starts wherever you are, so a hotel lobby works as the base.

Can we hold our event outdoors or on the beach?

Yes, and November through April is the best time for it. Plan summer outdoor programs for the morning, because afternoon thunderstorms are common from June through September, and hold an indoor room as a backup. A program on a hotel’s own beach or lawn is arranged with the hotel; a city park may need a permit.

How long does a team building event in St. Pete take?

Plan on one to three hours. Best Corporate Feud runs 1 to 1.5 hours, Bike Build Donation® and A Minute 2 Win It! run 1.5 to 2, Team Olympics runs 1.5 to 2, and City SmartHunt® and Bridge to the Future run 2 to 2.5.

How many people can take part?

Our events have run for groups of 20 to 6,000+, and most programs list 30 to 1,000+. In St. Pete the room or the stretch of beach usually sets the limit, and we add facilitators as the headcount grows. Tell us the number and the venue and we will tell you what fits.

How far in advance should we book?

A month is comfortable for a group under 100 in your own office. Give us eight weeks or more for January through April, when seasonal visitors fill the hotels, for Grand Prix weekend in late February or early March, and for any group over 100.

Do you also cover Tampa, Clearwater and St. Pete Beach?

Yes. St. Petersburg is part of our Tampa Bay coverage, which includes Tampa, Clearwater, St. Pete Beach, Palm Harbor and Sarasota. A company with offices on both sides of the bay can book both in one conversation.
