Why St. Pete Beach works for a corporate event

How it works with us here

St. Pete Beach is where Tampa Bay companies and visiting conference groups go to meet on the Gulf, and most events here run inside a beach resort: on the sand behind the hotel, on a lawn or deck above it, or in the ballroom when the afternoon storms roll in. We bring the facilitators and every piece of equipment, and we work with the resort's event team on the beach and ballroom plan. Our office is in Palm Harbor, in north Pinellas County, so the team that runs your program is local.

More about corporate events in St. Pete Beach, FL

Team Olympics on the sand

Team Olympics is the program St. Pete Beach groups book most, and nearly all of it has run on the beach at The Don CeSar, the pink 1928 hotel at the south end of the island. Teams of 12 to 15 rotate through relays and field games for 1.5 to 2 hours on the wide, flat sand in front of the hotel. Event planners bring it back for their conference groups because the beach is a few steps from the meeting rooms.

Bikes for Pinellas kids

Bike Build Donation® has run at The Don CeSar and at Island Grand at TradeWinds, in the version that adds iPad challenges to the build. The finished bikes from the Don CeSar builds went to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Suncoast, which has since merged into Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Tampa Bay.

Ballroom programs for the rainy months

From June through September most afternoons bring a thunderstorm, so groups keep a ballroom program ready. A Minute 2 Win It! has filled The Don CeSar's ballroom, a software company played Putting for Pets at Island Grand at TradeWinds, building mini golf holes out of pet supplies that then went to animal shelters, and a mining company ran Spin It 2 Win It! at the Hilton Garden Inn on Gulf Boulevard.

Along Gulf Boulevard

Gulf Boulevard runs the length of the island, with the resorts on the Gulf side, Corey Avenue's shops a few blocks inland, and the Pass-a-Grille historic district at the southern tip. A software company used The Hotel Zamora, on the Intracoastal side, as the start of a walking city challenge. A City SmartHunt® can use the same streets, with teams of eight to ten on iPads we provide.

Where events happen

The Don CeSar is where we work most, with its Grand Ballroom, terraces and beach. Island Grand at TradeWinds is the biggest meeting resort on the island, with an 8,400-square-foot ballroom and the Breck Deck above the sand. The Hotel Zamora and the Hilton Garden Inn St. Pete Beach take smaller groups.

Part of Tampa Bay

St. Pete Beach is our Gulf beach coverage within Tampa Bay. Downtown St. Petersburg, with its waterfront hotels and the Pier, is about 20 minutes east over the Pinellas Bayway, and Tampa is across the bay. The same team plans events in all of them.

Planning guide

Sand, deck or ballroom: space for a St. Pete Beach program

A beach resort gives you three kinds of space: the sand, a lawn or deck above it, and the ballroom. The square footage per person tells you which one each program needs.

Floor area per person

Measured another way

City SmartHunt®
A start in your resort lobby, with a course along Gulf Boulevard, Corey Avenue or Pass-a-Grille.

The City of St. Pete Beach asks for a special event permit application at least 30 days ahead for events on public or private property, with a certificate of insurance naming the city; groups under 25 without alcohol or a street closure are exempt. Beach fires are not permitted from May 1 to October 31.

A worked example

5,000 sq ft

100 people at 50 sq ft each

Each square is one person’s 50 sq ft.

Team Olympics for 100 needs about 5,000 square feet, a little less than The Don CeSar's Grand Ballroom, so the beach is the better field and the ballroom is the rain plan for a smaller game.

Planning guide

St. Pete Beach weather through the year

Winters are mild and dry on the Gulf. Summer brings highs near 91 and the wettest months of the year, with storms most afternoons.

  • Outdoors

    November to April

    • Highs from about 70 in January to 82 in April, with two to three inches of rain a month: the season for Team Olympics on the sand.
    • It is also the high season, so the resorts fill early from February through April.
  • Either way

    May and October

    • Highs in the mid 80s and still fairly dry. Sea turtle nesting season runs May 1 to October 31, so beach programs stay in daylight.
  • Indoors

    June to September

    • Highs of 89 to 91 and seven to nine inches of rain a month. Start beach games early, and plan a ballroom program for the afternoon.
    • Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30; hold an indoor room for any outdoor date.

Dates to plan around

Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg
Late February (February 27 to March 1 in 2026). The IndyCar race is in downtown St. Petersburg and draws crowds from across the region.
Spring break
March. The busiest weeks on the beach and in the resorts.
Bucs Beach Bash
Late April (April 24 to 26 in 2026). Held at TradeWinds on NFL Draft weekend.
Country Thunder Florida
May (May 8 to 10 in 2026). A three-day country music festival on the beach at TradeWinds.
Sea turtle nesting season
May 1 to October 31. Fill holes, clear the sand and keep lights off the beach after dark.

A beach program at TradeWinds should steer clear of the Country Thunder and Bucs Beach Bash weekends, when the resort's beach is taken.

Getting to St. Pete Beach

Two airports serve the beach, and three bridges connect the island to the mainland.

Flying in

Tampa International (TPA)
About 30 miles, roughly 40 minutes by car without traffic, over the Howard Frankland Bridge and down I-275.
St. Pete-Clearwater International (PIE)
About 20 miles north in mid-Pinellas, a shorter drive for groups flying into the smaller airport.

Driving

Pinellas Bayway
The toll road (State Road 682) from I-275 lands at the south end of the island, right by The Don CeSar. The Corey Causeway from South Pasadena and the Blind Pass bridge from Treasure Island are the other two ways on.
Parking
Resort guests park at their hotel. Public beach parking is metered, and the largest stretch runs along Gulf Way in Pass-a-Grille.

On the island

Suncoast Beach Trolley
PSTA's trolley runs up Gulf Boulevard from St. Pete Beach through the beach towns to Clearwater Beach, handy for groups split across hotels.

When to book a St. Pete Beach event

  1. 10+ weeks out

Any date from February through April at a Gulf resort, and anything near spring break, the Grand Prix or the TradeWinds festival weekends.

  2. 6 weeks out

Summer and fall dates. For a program on public beach or city property, the city permit application is due at least 30 days before the event.

  3. 2 weeks out

Final headcount, the beach or ballroom layout from the resort, and the local organization for a charitable build.

  4. Event day

We set up on the sand or in the ballroom before your group arrives, run the program and leave the beach as we found it, holes filled.

Short notice sometimes works in the summer, so call about a close date. 800.849.8326

Corporate events and team building in St. Pete Beach, FL: questions we get

Can we hold a team building event on the beach in St. Pete Beach?

Yes. Team Olympics runs on the sand behind The Don CeSar, and other resorts on Gulf Boulevard have beach and lawn space. We plan the layout with the resort. A group of 25 or more on public property needs a City of St. Pete Beach special event permit, which we sort out with you.

Which St. Pete Beach resorts have you worked in?

The Don CeSar most often, then Island Grand at TradeWinds, The Hotel Zamora and the Hilton Garden Inn St. Pete Beach. The Don CeSar's Grand Ballroom is about 5,700 square feet, and TradeWinds has the largest meeting space on the island. Tell us your hotel and we will plan around its rooms.

Is this different from your St. Petersburg page?

Yes. St. Pete Beach is its own city on the barrier island, with the Gulf resorts, Corey Avenue and Pass-a-Grille. The St. Petersburg page covers downtown, the waterfront parks and the Pier on the bay side. Most conference groups on the beach stay and meet in one resort.

What programs do St. Pete Beach groups book most?

Team Olympics leads by a wide margin, then Bike Build Donation®, A Minute 2 Win It!, Putting for Pets and Spin It 2 Win It!. Team Olympics and the bike build run 1.5 to 2 hours; the game shows run 1 to 2 hours and fit a ballroom when the weather turns.

Does sea turtle nesting season affect a beach event?

It shapes it. From May 1 through October 31 Pinellas County asks everyone on the beach to fill holes, pick up everything and keep lights off the sand after dark. We stay clear of marked nests, fill in any holes we make, and run beach programs in daylight during those months.

When is the best time for an outdoor program?

November through April, when highs run from about 70 in January to the low 80s in April and rain is light. From June through September highs reach 90 and each month brings seven to nine inches of rain, so we start beach programs in the morning and hold a ballroom.

Where do the charitable donations go?

Bikes built at The Don CeSar went to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Suncoast, now part of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Tampa Bay. Putting for Pets supplies go to animal shelters. We can send any build to a Pinellas organization your team already supports.

How far ahead should we book?

Ten weeks or more for February through April, when spring break, the Grand Prix in downtown St. Petersburg and the winter season fill the resorts. A beach program on public property needs its city permit application at least 30 days out. Summer and fall dates are usually comfortable at six weeks.
