Why Redondo Beach works for a corporate event
How a Redondo Beach event works with us
Redondo Beach events happen at King Harbor, where the hotels sit on the marina a short walk from the pier. The groups we meet here are mostly South Bay companies, automotive, aerospace and food and beverage, holding a meeting close to their offices, plus teams flying in through LAX, a short drive north. We run the program in the hotel or out along the harbor and keep to the meeting's agenda.

More about corporate events in Redondo Beach, CA
Builds for automotive teams
Automotive groups book two programs here more than any others. Go-Kart Competition has teams design and build their own self-powered karts, then race them, and Bridge to the Future has teams build a bridge strong enough to carry the whole group, each section painted with the team's goals. Both have run at the Sonesta Redondo Beach and Marina on the same day, for an automotive company's meetings.
The pier and the harbor as a course
The Redondo Beach Pier, the boardwalk and the King Harbor marina sit side by side, so a City SmartHunt® can run entirely on foot. It has started from the Portofino Hotel and Marina for a food and beverage company and for an aerospace group, with teams of eight to ten taking photo and video challenges on iPads we provide.
Charitable builds at the Portofino
The Portofino, at the end of its own marina, has hosted our charitable programs too. Bike Build Donation® has run there, and a wheelchair build has run there for the same company that ran a SmartHunt the day before.
Leadership sessions
Competition to Collaboration® has run at the Sonesta for an automotive leadership group, a facilitated session in which two sub-teams find they do better sharing what works. It needs a meeting room and about 30 square feet a person.
Where Redondo Beach events happen
The Sonesta Redondo Beach and Marina and the Portofino Hotel and Marina are the two hotels we work in most. The Redondo Beach Hotel, a Hilton hotel on North Harbor Drive, suits a smaller group and has hosted a tabletop games tournament. Donations from Redondo Beach programs have gone to the Boys & Girls Club in nearby Harbor City.
Part of Greater Los Angeles
Redondo Beach is part of our Los Angeles coverage, with Santa Monica up the coast and Long Beach across the peninsula. The same team runs events across Los Angeles and into Orange County.

Planning guide
Sizing a program for a King Harbor hotel
The harbor hotels have ballrooms, terraces over the water and smaller meeting rooms. Next to each program is the space one guest needs.
Floor area per person
- Bike Build Donation®25 sq ft
- A Minute 2 Win It!25 sq ft
- Go-Kart Competition30 sq ft
A ballroom or a terrace long enough for a race lane
- Competition to Collaboration®30 sq ft
A meeting room for a leadership group
- Bridge to the Future40 sq ft
A ballroom with the bridge built down the middle
Measured another way
- City SmartHunt®
- A start at the hotel; the route follows the harbor, the boardwalk and the pier.
The beach is run by Los Angeles County Beaches and Harbors. An organized group on the sand needs a county Special Event Use Permit, applied for no earlier than 90 days and no later than three weeks ahead.
A worked example
1,800 sq ft
60 people at 30 sq ft each
Go-Kart Competition needs a straight lane for the race. Ask the hotel for the longest room, or a terrace, when you book.
