Why Brooklyn works for a corporate event

How it works with us here

Brooklyn events cluster in two waterfront neighborhoods. DUMBO, under the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges, and Williamsburg, across the East River from Manhattan, hold the hotels and event rooms our clients book, a short subway or ferry ride from Manhattan offices. We bring the facilitators, the game kits and the build supplies to the room, run the program in 1 to 2.5 hours, and pack out before your dinner starts. The same team runs events across New York City, so a Manhattan office can plan a Brooklyn offsite in one call.

More about corporate events in Brooklyn, NY

DUMBO and the bridge hotels

Fiesta Fun! is the program Brooklyn groups book most. A services company has made it a fixture of its annual meeting at the 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, the hotel inside Brooklyn Bridge Park facing Lower Manhattan: teams compete to make the best salsa, guacamole and margaritas. In Downtown Brooklyn, the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge has hosted an Amazing Chase SmartHunt® and a Mini-Golf Build and Food Donation in its ballroom.

Williamsburg rooftops for networking

Williamsburg's hotels are built for mingling, which is why Speed Networking has run at both the Wythe Hotel and The William Vale. A financial services group ran it at the Wythe and a software company at The William Vale. It runs 1 to 2 hours, so it fits between the last session and dinner.

Industry City for the active programs

Industry City, the converted warehouse complex on the Sunset Park waterfront, has the open floors and courtyards a big active program needs. A software team ran Team Olympics there in July. At roughly 50 square feet for each player, it needs the kind of room a Manhattan hotel rarely has and a Brooklyn warehouse does.

Builds that stay in the borough

Charity programs here end with a donation to New York kids. A software company built STEM Backpacks for Kids at the Sheraton Brooklyn New York, and the backpacks went to Madison Square Boys & Girls Club, which runs clubhouses in neighborhoods across the city. Bike Build Donation® and Bridge to the Future have run here too, the second for a school group.

SmartHunts on the waterfront

A City SmartHunt® can start at a DUMBO hotel and run along Brooklyn Bridge Park, the Brooklyn Heights Promenade and the Fulton Ferry landing, with small teams racing on our iPads. Brooklyn Bridge Park issues its own event permits, and we plan the route and the paperwork with you.

Part of our New York City coverage

Brooklyn is part of our New York coverage. The same facilitators run programs in Midtown and Lower Manhattan hotels, in company offices and in Westchester conference centers, so a firm with teams on both sides of the East River can put everyone in one event.

Planning guide

Space for a Brooklyn program

Brooklyn rooms range from hotel ballrooms in DUMBO and Downtown Brooklyn to open warehouse floors at Industry City. Each program below lists the floor area it needs for every guest.

Floor area per person

Measured another way

Speed Networking
A reception room or rooftop with space to move between rounds.
Amazing Chase SmartHunt®
A start in a DUMBO or Downtown Brooklyn hotel.

Brooklyn Bridge Park asks for at least 21 business days to review a special event permit, and issues none on holidays or holiday weekends. We fold that into the plan for any program that uses the park.

A worked example

1,500 sq ft

60 people at 25 sq ft each

Each square is one person’s 25 sq ft.

A hotel's prefunction space or rooftop often works for Speed Networking while the ballroom is set for dinner.

Planning guide

Brooklyn weather through the year

Spring and fall are the waterfront seasons; summer suits rooftop evenings, and winter is ballroom season.

  • Outdoors

    April and May

    • Highs from about 60 to near 70: a good window for a SmartHunt along Brooklyn Bridge Park.
  • Either way

    June to August

    • Highs from the upper 70s to the low 80s. Rooftop evenings work well; keep active programs to a shaded or indoor space at midday.
  • Outdoors

    September and October

    • Highs from the mid-70s down to the mid-60s, the best weeks of the year on the waterfront.
  • Indoors

    November to March

    • The mid-50s in November fall to about 40 by January, and January and February bring most of the snow. Book a ballroom, and see our holiday team building ideas for December parties.

Dates to plan around

TCS New York City Marathon
First Sunday of November (November 1 in 2026). The five-borough course runs through Brooklyn.
Brooklyn Bridge Park permits open
December 1. Applications for the next year's park events open.

For a waterfront SmartHunt, avoid marathon Sunday and holiday weekends, when the park issues no event permits.

Planning guide

Getting to Brooklyn

Most attendees arrive by subway or ferry from Manhattan. Driving and parking near the waterfront is slow, so plan the arrival around transit.

Flying in

LaGuardia
About 10 miles from the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge, the closest of the three airports.
JFK and Newark
JFK is about 19 miles and Newark about 15 miles from Downtown Brooklyn. Allow extra time at rush hour.

By water

NYC Ferry, East River route
Every East River boat stops at DUMBO and Wall Street/Pier 11. At peak times the route splits, and boats call at either North Williamsburg or South Williamsburg.

In the borough

Brooklyn Bridge Park
Open daily from 6 AM to 1 AM, with free entry, and a short walk from the DUMBO hotels.
Parking
Parking near the DUMBO and Williamsburg waterfront is limited. For a group arriving together, arrange a coach drop-off with the hotel.

Planning guide

Lead times for a Brooklyn event

  1. 8 weeks out

A ballroom or rooftop in DUMBO or Williamsburg, any December date, and a spring or fall date on the waterfront.

  2. 5 weeks out

A SmartHunt that uses Brooklyn Bridge Park, so the park's 21 business day permit review fits.

  3. 10 days out

Lock the guest count and the floor plan with the hotel and with us. Name a Brooklyn charity if your team has one.

  4. Event day

Our crew sets up ahead of your guests and is packed out before the next booking.

Short notice in a Brooklyn hotel is sometimes possible. Phone us with the date. 800.849.8326

Corporate events and team building in Brooklyn, NY: questions we get

Which Brooklyn hotels do you know?

The 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge and the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge in DUMBO and Downtown Brooklyn, the Wythe Hotel and The William Vale in Williamsburg, and the Sheraton Brooklyn New York. Each has rooms for a seated program, and the Williamsburg hotels add rooftops for a reception.

What programs do Brooklyn companies book most?

Fiesta Fun! leads, then Speed Networking, Team Olympics, the Amazing Chase SmartHunt®, STEM Backpacks for Kids and Bike Build Donation®. Budget 1.5 to 2 hours for Fiesta Fun!, a salsa and guacamole contest, or for a build, and 1 to 2 hours for Speed Networking.

Is this different from your New York City page?

Our New York City facilitators run the Brooklyn events. Here we cover the DUMBO, Downtown Brooklyn and Williamsburg hotels and Industry City; Manhattan has its own New York City page, and one call books both boroughs.

Can we run a scavenger hunt along the Brooklyn waterfront?

Yes. A City SmartHunt® can start at a DUMBO hotel and use Brooklyn Bridge Park, the Promenade and the Fulton Ferry landing. The park requires its own special event permit, reviewed over at least 21 business days, so plan about five weeks ahead.

Where can a large active program run in Brooklyn?

Industry City in Sunset Park has warehouse halls and courtyards with room for Team Olympics, which needs about 50 square feet a person. A software team ran it there in July. Hotel ballrooms suit programs that need 25 to 40 square feet a person.

Where do the donations go?

STEM backpacks built at the Sheraton Brooklyn New York went to Madison Square Boys & Girls Club, which runs clubhouses across New York City. Other builds can go to a neighborhood group your staff already volunteers with.

How do attendees get there from Manhattan?

By subway, or by NYC Ferry: every East River boat stops at DUMBO and Wall Street, and boats call at North or South Williamsburg. LaGuardia is about 10 miles from Downtown Brooklyn. Driving is slow near the waterfront, so book a coach drop-off for a group.

How far ahead should we book?

Two months is comfortable for a DUMBO or Williamsburg ballroom or rooftop, for December, and for spring and fall dates on the waterfront. Allow five weeks for anything that needs a Brooklyn Bridge Park permit. A hotel program at shorter notice is sometimes possible, so ask.
