Why Milwaukee works for a corporate event

How it works with us here

Milwaukee groups like a program with something to show for it, and most of what they book here ends in a donation: bikes, rocking horses, food. We run those builds in the downtown and Third Ward hotels, in the old Pabst brewery and in company plants and offices, and we bring every tool and part. For a group that wants the city itself, a SmartHunt covers the river, the lakefront and Deer District on iPads we provide.

More about corporate events in Milwaukee, WI

Builds that stay in Milwaukee

Bike Build Donation® tops the Milwaukee list. A hospitality company built bikes at The Pfister Hotel on Wisconsin Avenue, and a manufacturer ran the same build on its own plant floor. The Pfister's bikes went to Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee. Each team of ten assembles its bike from the box, and the bikes are donated when the program ends.

Kids Rock! in the Third Ward and at Pabst

Kids Rock!™ has teams assemble rocking chairs, rocking horses and stuffed animals for children. A consulting firm ran it on two days in a row at The Journeyman Hotel in the Historic Third Ward, and the finished pieces went to the Milwaukee Rescue Mission. An insurance company held it at Best Place at the Historic Pabst Brewery, the restored brewery hall west of downtown, and gave its chairs and horses to Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee.

A SmartHunt from Deer District

A company group started at Gather at Deer District, beside Fiserv Forum, on a City SmartHunt® in July. Teams shoot photos and videos at each stop, and a route can follow the RiverWalk into the Third Ward or head east toward the lake and the Milwaukee Art Museum.

Ballroom programs downtown

The Hyatt Regency Milwaukee on Kilbourn Avenue has held both a game show, now Best Corporate Feud, and a retail company's Mini-Golf Build and Food Donation, where teams build a putting course out of canned and boxed food. At The Iron Horse Hotel in Walker's Point, a few blocks from the Harley-Davidson Museum, a December group built Bridge to the Future: a bridge strong enough for the whole team to cross.

Nearby

Chicago is about 90 minutes away on Amtrak's Hiawatha, and Madison is an hour and a half west on I-94. The same team covers all three, so a company with offices in Milwaukee and Chicago can plan both events in one conversation.

Planning guide

Space for a Milwaukee program

From the Pfister's ballroom to a plant floor, check your space against the per-person figures in each program's spec.

Floor area per person

Measured another way

City SmartHunt®
A start at your hotel or at Deer District; the route uses the sidewalks and the RiverWalk.

A program set up in a Milwaukee County park, such as along the lakefront, needs a county special event permit filed at least 30 days ahead. A SmartHunt that moves on the sidewalks in small teams does not, and we confirm the route with you.

A worked example

2,000 sq ft

80 people at 25 sq ft each

Each square is one person’s 25 sq ft.

A plant floor or a cleared cafeteria usually fits a bike build. Send a photo of the space and the headcount and we will confirm.

Planning guide

Milwaukee weather through the year

Lake Michigan keeps spring cool near the water and summers comfortable, with July highs around 80. January highs are below freezing.

  • Either way

    May and June

    • Highs from the 60s into the 70s, cooler by the lake. Bring a layer for a SmartHunt near the water.
  • Outdoors

    July to September

    • Highs around 80 in midsummer and the 70s in September: the months for a SmartHunt along the river and the lakefront.
  • Either way

    October

    • Highs near 60. An outdoor program can work early in the month; plan an indoor backup.
  • Indoors

    November to April

    • Highs from below freezing to the 50s. Builds and game shows move indoors, and December brings holiday team building.

Dates to plan around

Brewers season
April to September. Home games at American Family Field bring traffic west of downtown.
Summerfest
Late June to early July (three weekends, June 18 to July 4 in 2026). The music festival at Henry Maier Festival Park fills downtown hotels.
Lakefront festivals
July and August. Summer ethnic festivals, Irish Fest among them, keep the festival grounds busy on weekends.
Bucks season opens
October. From opening night into spring, game nights fill Deer District around Fiserv Forum.

A SmartHunt near the lakefront on a festival weekend meets crowds. Tell us your date and we will plan the route or the day around it.

Planning guide

Getting to Milwaukee

Milwaukee is easy from Chicago by train, and the airport is close to downtown.

Flying in

Milwaukee Mitchell International (MKE)
About 8 miles south of downtown, a 15-minute drive in normal traffic.

By rail

Amtrak Hiawatha
About 90 minutes from Chicago Union Station to the Milwaukee Intermodal Station downtown, with a stop at the airport.

Around downtown

The Hop
Milwaukee's streetcar links the Intermodal Station, downtown and the Third Ward.
RiverWalk
A walking path along the Milwaukee River through downtown and the Third Ward.
Parking
Hotel valet or a downtown ramp. Plan extra time on game and festival nights.

Planning guide

When to book in Milwaukee

  1. Eight weeks or more

A downtown or Third Ward hotel from June to September, any Summerfest week, and December.

  2. About a month

A build in your own office or plant. Tell us about shifts and site rules for visitors.

  3. Late in the planning

Lock the headcount and pick the Milwaukee charity that will receive the finished bikes or chairs.

  4. That morning

The crew unloads, lays out the stations and, when the last team finishes, hauls the empty boxes away.

Winter weekdays are the easiest dates to get on short notice. 800.849.8326

Corporate events and team building in Milwaukee, WI: questions we get

Which Milwaukee venues have you worked in?

The Pfister Hotel, the Hyatt Regency Milwaukee, The Journeyman Hotel in the Third Ward, The Iron Horse Hotel in Walker's Point, Best Place at the Historic Pabst Brewery and Gather at Deer District. We also run programs in company offices and plants across the metro.

What do Milwaukee groups choose?

Charitable builds, mostly: Bike Build Donation® and Kids Rock!™, with Mini-Golf Build and Food Donation and Bridge to the Future close behind. City SmartHunt® and Best Corporate Feud round out the list for groups that want the city or a stage.

Where do the donations go?

Bikes and Kids Rock!™ pieces from Milwaukee builds have gone to Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Rescue Mission. Your own charity partner in southeastern Wisconsin works too.

Can we do a scavenger hunt in downtown Milwaukee?

Yes. A City SmartHunt® can start at your hotel or at Deer District and follow the RiverWalk, the Third Ward or the lakefront. Teams of eight to ten use iPads we provide, and summer and early fall are the best months to be outside.

Do you come to our office or plant?

Yes. Bike Build Donation® has run on a Milwaukee plant floor and in a downtown office. Clear about 25 square feet per builder, add tables, and we fit around shift changes and your visitor safety briefing.

Is our group too big or too small?

Unlikely. We have worked with one department at a hotel and with a crowd spread over downtown on a SmartHunt. Programs are specced for 30 to 1,000+, and larger groups simply get more facilitators.

When should we avoid a downtown date?

Summerfest weekends in late June and early July fill downtown hotels and the lakefront, and Brewers and Bucks home games add traffic near the stadium and Fiserv Forum. We check every date against the festival and game schedules.

When should we lock in a date?

Summer and early fall downtown need about two months, and Summerfest weeks more. A plant or office build can be arranged in four or five weeks, and winter dates are usually easy.
