Build-a-Wheelchair was one of our most beloved CSR programs. Here’s why we retired it, and what we recommend instead.

For over a decade, thousands of teams seeking to serve veteran communities have chosen Build-a-Wheelchair®, a purpose-driven CSR team building program designed to support individuals with mobility challenges – a common challenge for veterans. Through the Build-a-Wheelchair® program, thousands of wheelchairs have been assembled and donated to local organizations across the country, often those serving veteran communities.

We value our close working relationships with our charitable partners to help us stay in tune with the current needs of the communities served by our CSR programs. Recently, we learned the good news that wheelchairs are now provided to any veteran in need. But this means that our charitable partners serving veteran communities no longer need donated wheelchairs.

We are proud of what Build-a-Wheelchair® has accomplished – but continuing to offer this program would mean donating equipment that charities no longer prioritize. And that’s not the kind of impact Best Corporate Events stands behind.

We don’t offer programs for the sake of offering programs. We offer them because they make a genuine difference.

So, we made the difficult decision to retire this beloved program. We remain proud of its legacy and the teams and communities it has touched.

For the teams who participated, this program delivered something that few corporate events can: the experience of building something with their hands that would change someone’s life. Those moments are worth preserving—just in a more impactful form.

Not at this time. We retired the program because charitable demand for donated wheelchairs has shifted, and we only offer programs where we’re confident the donations will have a real impact. Build-A-Rollator® is the closest equivalent and benefits individuals with mobility challenges just as meaningfully.

The format is nearly identical—teams compete in challenges to earn parts, then assemble, safety-test, and donate the finished equipment. The key difference is the recipient need: rollators (wheeled walkers) are in significantly higher demand from aging populations and mobility-support organizations than wheelchairs currently are.
