Lowe’s, one of the largest home improvement stores in the world, reached out to Best Corporate Events in August 2017 to organize a team building in Las Vegas. Lindsay, from the Lowe’s headquarters in Mooresville, NC, inquired about a possible event for over 3,000 people. She explained to us that every year they had a National Sales Meeting in Las Vegas, and this year they wanted to have a charitable team-building component as part of their meeting. The opportunity to build a bike for charity was something that she expressed interest in right away. Lindsay also wanted the team building event to be held onsite where their meeting was taking place, in the convention center in the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas.

After Lindsay and our sales team had their initial call, we were able to understand the company’s goals and objectives for this event. We presented her with several different options: Bike Build Donation®, Build-a-Guitar®, Build-a-Wheelchair®, and our Wagon Build Donation. All four of these team building programs by Best Corporate Events are high energy and end with a heartfelt donation for those less fortunate.

Solution

Lindsay had her heart set on our Bike Build Donation®, one of our most popular charitable programs! We were thrilled that she had chosen this program and knew that building bikes for charity would be a perfect fit for her and her team.

What resulted was the largest bike build donation in history! Over 3,500 Lowe’s managers from the U.S., Canada, and Mexico came together in the Sands Expo and Convention Center in Las Vegas and built 1,048 bikes for donation. And joining them in the build was Jimmie Johnson, a seven-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion! Best Corporate Events supplied everything they needed, including 180 knowledgable support staff to help the day run smoothly and 500 sets of Craftsmen tools.

Program Details

Throughout the event, teams participated in fun iPad® challenges and activities, which aided them in gaining points to acquire the necessary parts to build their bikes. Once the bikes were built, Lowe’s managers added handwritten notes of encouragement to the bikes. Each bike also went through a safety inspection to ensure they were top quality before their new owners received them. As the event came to a close, excited children arrived from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada.. Lowe’s managers got to present each child with a bike, a helmet, and a lock to keep their new bike safe.

“It was a great day for the 3,500 Lowe’s managers that participated in the Bike Build Donation event on February 7, 2018, at the Sands Expo and Convention Center in Las Vegas. They set the World Record by building and donating 1,048 bikes, helmets, and locks to deserving children throughout the state of Nevada.” – Dave – Lowe’s

Why a Build a Bike for Charity Program is so Successful for Corporate Team Building

At the Lowe’s bike build donation in Las Vegas, it was easy to see that more than just bikes were being created. In addition to supplying community children with great gifts, the event brought Lowe’s employees together to work towards a worthwhile goal while developing their communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

Charitable team building events like bike builds also help employees feel proud to belong to their organization. “I think it’s absolutely amazing that our company goes out of their way to help communities in our surrounding areas,” said one of the Lowe’s managers who participated at the Las Vegas event.

Another Lowe’s manager added, “I flew all the way from Canada and I’m enjoying every second! It’s great to be a part of Lowe’s.”

    What is a Keynote Speaker?

Keynote Speaker is an often-misunderstood term associated with simply a motivational speaker, breakout speaker, industry expert, etc. Most professional speakers are not actual trained Keynote Speakers, who are specialists, therefore in much lower supply, and in higher demand.

Keynote Speakers are experienced, professional communicators who engage an audience, capturing the essence of a client’s meeting. They are able to highlight it to their audience while simultaneously delivering their own key concepts and proprietary content in an entertaining and impactful way. Most companies understand that this specialization is very much worth the time (around an hour) and the investment.

In order to capture the perfect essence, a Keynote Speaker spends the necessary time researching a client’s industry, their issues, and their audience to craft a customized presentation into a unique and distinctive moment specifically for the client’s event.

As a top Keynote Speaker, Tom Leu strategically uses compelling storytelling, humor, powerful visuals, audio and video clips, and audience participation elements to weave an impactful message into your event in a fun and memorable way. Tom can also pair his Keynote with Best Corporate Events programming, laying a foundation and setting a tone that best prepares participants for maximum engagement in the forthcoming team events that day.
