“It looks like a solitary sport but it takes a team.” –Diana Nyad
When endurance swimming Diana Nyad covered the 110-mile distance from Cuba to Key West, Florida this year, she did so on her own, in a way. The rules stated that she could never touch the boat or any outside person or object during the entirety of the 53 hours she spent in the water. That said, however, Nyad acknowledged that without her team, her accomplishment wouldn’t have been possible at all.
The crew accompanying Nyad included medical personnel, jellyfish experts, boat drivers, and independent observers to corroborate her story of achievement. There are reports that not only did she stop halfway through to sing happy birthday to one member of her team, but also that as she approached the end of her swim she told everyone in attendance on the boats, from dear friends to crew she’d just met the day before, that they were “a special group”.
We here at Best Corporate Events are always heartened by tales of teams working together to achieve the extraordinary, like this one. Forging successful teams is our passion!
