Improve your group’s communication skills with this effective, challenging, multi-faceted team building event that requires each team to replicate a pre-built structure by using only verbal descriptions and high-quality communication skills through a chain of conversations.
Total Recall is an engaging and mentally challenging communication initiative that strengthens clarity, accuracy, and teamwork. In this model replication team building activity, sub-teams work together to recreate a pre-built structure located in a separate area. Only one participant, the looker, can see the original, and all other details must be communicated verbally. The experience demonstrates how easily information can be misinterpreted and how powerful effective communication becomes when every message matters.
Teams quickly discover that success requires strong listening, thoughtful clarifying questions, consistent confirmation of details, and a reliable flow of information. With each participant assigned a specific role, the activity creates a fast-paced environment that mirrors real workplace communication challenges. It offers a memorable way to strengthen accuracy, collaboration, and effective two-way communication across any team.

Program Agenda
The session begins with an interactive paired warm-up designed to demonstrate the importance of precise two-way communication. After the introduction, groups are divided into sub-teams of five, and each member selects their role based on provided descriptions. The looker has exclusive access to the original structure, the buyer negotiates for materials, the two runners transport information and resources, and the builder constructs the replica without ever seeing the original.
A continuous chain of verbal communication unfolds as teams work across three separate locations. Information flows from the looker to the buyer and runners, then to the builder, and back again through reverse communication to verify accuracy. The challenge intensifies as teams strategize, refine their methods, and learn to correct miscommunications in real time.
By the conclusion of the activity, teams present their completed structures to compare how closely they align with the original. The experience drives home valuable lessons about communication discipline, active listening, verification loops, and the importance of consistent message clarity in any collaborative environment.
