The challenge
Lauren, a meeting planner at one of the country's largest communications companies, needed a program for 250 employees at the Boston Park Plaza. The brief was specific: a shared service language, more planning ahead, missions that connect to each other, and energy in the room. Her Salt Lake City office had already run a Bike Build Donation with us.
What we ran
We put three programs in front of her: Competition to Collaboration, Igniting Team Performance and Bridge to the Future. She chose the bridge. Teams build sections out of cardboard and duct tape, each section standing for one of the company's pillars, and the sections have to join into a single span strong enough to walk on.
Event day
Two hundred and fifty people, one bridge. It held. The whole group walked across it for the photos.
The result
A room that had spent the afternoon negotiating tolerances with other departments, which was the point. The company has now run BEST programs at two of its offices.
