The challenge

Shell's Houston Day of Giving needed a build for 500 people a year, run in waves through the day at two venues at the same time. Deirdre, and later Karen, asked for the build itself with none of the games around it: bikes, tools, staff, done.

What we ran

Bike Build Donation reduced to the build. Twenty-five stations per venue, three bikes per station, a BEST crew at each venue and a wave schedule so every group found a full station when it arrived.

Event day

Year one produced 500 bikes across the two sites, year two 500 more, year three 1,000. Every bike went to the City of Houston Fire Department to give away.

The result

Three years, 2,000 bikes, the same client each time. The third year's only wrinkle was logistics: the venues were closed the Friday before, so the bikes shipped days ahead of our usual two-to-three-day window. Nobody in the room noticed.
